The Country

Come on in. Welcome!
You won't believe what's in the modern "General Store." All that's missing is the warmth of the stove, the odors of leather, rope, ground coffee and apples, and the creaking sound of a rocking chair.

You can link to any of the following main sections, the chapters of this electronic on-line cybercatalog, the inventory of the General Store. "Goods and services" may have been a good way to think of human needs and markets, of "economics" in the past, but now we are now, and the General Store has the following offerings:
We even award citizens, Right Rural members, from our profits!

By the means of this cybercatalog, we offer for "you," the folks of Rural System, new ways to:
  1. Sell
  2. Buy
  3. Trade
  4. Recycle
  5. Inform
  6. Get "How-To" Instruction
  7. Get involved
  8. Get ideas, and
  9. Look ahead
Nine Ways to
Help Build
Rural System,
Serving You
Why Support Rural System action and locally-owned businesses?
  • Local Character and Prosperity
In an increasingly homogenized world, we help rural communities preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive character... and make it available to Earth citizens.
  • Community Well-Being
Locally-owned businesses build strong communities by sustaining vibrant town centers, linking neighbors in a web of economic and social relationships, and contributing to local causes.
  • Local Decision-Making
Local ownership ensures that important decisions are made locally by people who live in the community and who will feel the lasting impacts of those decisions.
  • Keeping Dollars in the Local Economy
Prosperous private land owners and their helpers cycle a large share of their revenue into the local economy, enriching the whole community.
  • Job and Wages
Such businesses create jobs and wages locally, and through the diversity and actions of Rural System tend to stabilize employment.
  • Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship fuels the region's and America's economic innovation and prosperity, and serves as a key means for families to take full advantage of technology and make economic advances.
  • Public Benefits and Costs
Local stores in town centers require comparatively little infrastructure and make efficient use of public services. Rural System contributes financially, in proportion to its successes, to rural community government.
  • Environmental Sustainability
Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact town centers - which, in turn, are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, wildlife loss, and air and water pollution and improving energy conservation. The vibrant local market tends to reduce exploiting local lands and waters.
  • Competition
A marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses and their customers through the General Store is the best way to ensure innovation, low prices, high quality SPOVIIIMM (the above list) and individual as well as rural community economic advantages over the long-term.
  • Product Diversity
A multitude of small businesses, each selecting products, services, and opportunities based on their own interests and the needs of their local customers as well as options offered by the expanded world-wide markets of the General Store guarantees a broad range of choices for dynamic modern people and their families.

This is a new electronic catalog, a cybercatalog, for the diverse set of offerings of enterprises and concepts that make up Rural System.

We hope you will shop around. We have fixed prices and a first-come, first-served procedure. We also have a "one-step forward" procedure, that, for a small sum annually, moves your order up one buyer in the sequence in which orders are filled. We have a standard shopping-cart procedure, one similar to other Internet sites. You may deposit an amount of money (interest drawn on it and "one-step" funds goes to land improvement) or simply use your check or credit card within our secure site procedures. You'll be amazed by the speed of delivery.

The offerings of the General Store are organized in the above SPOVIIIEMM list but also in groups that work primarily indoors and those that deal primarily with outdoor topics. That organization served poorly. The cybercatalog is hypertext, meaning that it is designed for you to "jump around" within it easily to explore your interests and relations in many dimensions.

A better way to see the cybercatalog is through the offerings, opportunities, and ideas of its groups. First, you might look at a sample of the unusual products it has for you. (These change seasonally and almost weekly as we move ahead for strengths within the rural community.) Check out the entire list of products.

     Key or Featured Products
  • Sourdough "starts" of several flavors.
  • Rural Rounds is a special hard cookie for hikers, anglers, and everyone (especially school lunches).

of the conglomerate
Rural System is the conglomerate that has developed and that is now ready to provide you with the above products, services, benefits, etc. We're working hard for the citizens of the rural areas. Not only are we meeting needs, but we're providing employment and financial ability to stay in the region ... and improving the productivity of the land. A proportion of all financial gains is returned to improve private land productivity. When we say "you can count on it," we mean it, for we post our progresslink here). There are more than 70 Groups (or enterprises) already present or forming that together are the means for doing profitably, sophisticated modern natural resource management. See the list and then link to any of them for their services, memberships, and potential opportunities for you to become involved with them. Joking, we can say we have a few problems and real needs in the rural environment. We have to work together to solve or overcome them.
